Concept

For much of its existence, the JLTC has been working towards the designation of a trail between Gull Lake and the Down Canyon area. While several trails currently exist in this area creating a social network between June Lake Village and Silver Lake, the designation of a formal June Lake Down Canyon Trail has long been a goal of the Committee. Ultimately, the JLTC would like the trail to be added by the US Forest Service into their officially recognized trail system. This recognition would then allow published mapping of the trail and open the door to grant funding for trail improvements.

Concerns Addressed

In the initial public comment stage members of the community raised concerns over tail proximity to homes, trailhead locations, and neighborhood access. Mono County has addressed these concerns by eliminating neighborhood connector trails, moving trail alignment to mitigate proximity of trail to homes, and moving trailheads to locations that can accommodate increased parking and traffic.

Possible Trailheads

  1. June Lake Community Center- Village

  2. June Mountain Ski Resort- Mid Canyon

  3. Fern Creek Trailhead - Down Canyon
